2-Time CARC Champ Fritz Wilson Dies PDF Print E-mail

Fred C. "Fritz" Wilson, aged 78, passed into eternal life on May 1, 2007 after a brief bout with cancer. Fritz was a CARC, and Colorado, racing legend. Fritz started racing cars in 1947 and won his very first race. Fritz was the 1956 and 1957 CARC champion at Lakeside and was well-known for his daring moves and exemplary car control. He once won a Main Event at Lakeside only to be disqualified for finishing on three wheels!

Fritz also won Late Model track championships, at Englewood in 1967 and 1975, and Colorado National Speedway in 1977 and 1983. He raced at Pike's Peak and led the Daytona 500 in 1959, the first year at the new speedway.

For his ultimate honor, Fritz was inducted into the Colorado Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2004. Those of us who watched Fritz Wilson race will always remember his smooth, aggressive style on the track, and his true humanity off of it. The CARC, led by the Board of Directors, wish the Wilson family our sincerest sympathies and are just honored that we could be part of the Fritz Wilson story.
