“THE CAT IS BACK” www.modcoupes.com COUPE CLATTER 2010 - Spring 2010 The 2010 CARC Season is underway!! The 64th year for the club. Wonder if Charlie Mullenhour and his fellow charter members thought it would last this long? The 2010 Executive Board takes pride in guiding the club into the future. So what’s new for 2010 ? 1. A 5-year rules package that mandates radios, full-containment seats, a 56% maximum left-side weight rule and requires the driver to set over the driveshaft. 2. For the first time ever, the club will travel with it’s own set of digital car scales. Thanx to Carl Vair and Leary Racing Products. 3. A minimum $5,000 Championship point fund. Along with a growing list of corporate sponsors. 2010 Sponsors Leary Racing Products GAM Race Engines The Block Shop Comp Cams 3R Automotive (Redline Oil) Englewood Driveshaft Steve’s Transmission The Sammy Gallo Family Embroidery Plus Holley Carburetors 4. A 16 race season including 10 races at Colorado National Speedway (Dacono, CO), 3 races at I-25 Speedway (Pueblo, CO), and 3 races at Big Country Speedway (Cheyenne, WY). 5. The return of Joe James Jr. to actively race with the CARC. The year also presents challenges. Rules changes without “grandfathering “ cars means unhappy owners. The High Plains Modifieds has been resurrected and will race at Big Country Speedway with cars that can’t or won’t meet CARC rules. The CARC has tougher rules resulting in safer cars, big-name drivers, many sponsors, a large point fund, and more races at more places. The club has an excellent future. 2010 memberships are now available. Prices have increased to help cover costs. Remember CARC is non-profit. Board members work without monetary compensation and in 2009 over $700 was donated to help fellow racers going through tough times. Contact Glenda Bredeson at 303-975-6394. As happens every year we have new cars, drivers, and owners. We would like to welcome Adam & Renee Waltemeyer who have purchased the #90 Frank Denning III car. “3D” will continue to drive using #09. Joe James Jr. will be behind the wheel. Expect to see Rich Bubak behind the wheel of another very competitive car soon. The #77 owned by Theron & Glenda Bredeson will be renumbered #75 with J.D. Gresham at the controls. Congratulations to 2010 Colorado Motorsports Hall of Fame Inductee, Ralph Young. Ralph was the crew chief for Sammy Sauer for many years. We are happy to announce that Paul Bredenberg will be our website manager for the 2010 season. Paul’s knowledge of CARC history is extensive. Three more business' have come on board to support the CARC. Wingman of Littleton Snap-On Tools (Adam/Renee Waltemeyer) Sereine Contact Lens Solution THANK YOU TO ALL OUR SPONSORS THE PRESIDENT’S CORNER As I look back on a few seasons ago and reflect on where the C.A.R.C. was at and where it’s at today, I’m amazed at all the changes that have taken place. Only a few years ago we had no weight rule at all. Now we have a minimum weight rule and we’ve gone from scaling before our races to scaling after. Only a few years ago no aftermarket heads were allowed let alone aluminum heads or a roller cam. Now aftermarket heads are widely used and crate motors are allowed with both aluminum heads and a roller cam. Only a few years ago there was no post race tech of any kind. Now we have our own Tech Official who performs engine pumps and runs down an entire list of tech on a weekly basis on the top finishing cars. Only a few years ago there were only a few different drivers that were winning main events. Now we have almost the entire field that is capable of winning on any given night. Especially after having 5 first time main event winners last year alone. One of the biggest changes the club has seen has been the rules that have recently been implemented. With the addition of a left side weight rule the racing should be closer, with the addition of having the driver sit over the driveshaft it preserves the look and style of our unique cars, and with the addition of requiring the drivers to have radios and full containment seats keep our drivers safer which is always a top concern. As the board of directors continues to work hard to attract not only local but national sponsors for the C.A.R.C. the future of the club is very bright. Hopefully now that our rules are set for the next five years it will entice many new cars to be built or encourage others that may be unsure of what to race to come join the C.A.R.C. As the new season approaches I’m sure you are all hard at work looking for any changes to take a few tenths off your lap times, painting the old girl up, or putting a few more pony’s under the hood. No matter what you're doing, race season is fast approaching and with all the changes it’s going to be one exciting season!! I can’t wait. See you at the track ! Gary Land - C.A.R.C. President |
