Colorado Automobile Racing Club
Warren Rhoades Tribute PDF Print E-mail

Our race meet at Big Country Speedway in Cheyenne was designated the Warren Rhoades memorial race meet. Warren Rhoades joined the CARC in 1972 and in 1973 he helped build & maintain three Powder Puff cars; one each for wife ElWanda (#13), Margaret Peconi (#14) & Patsy Wimp (#15). These cars ran from 73-77. In 1977 he helped his sons build a Sportsman that ran at Englewood. Then in 78 they moved the car to Lakeside and ran in the Funky Street Stock class.

From 1981-88 he was a board of Director with the CARC many times, while performing as a crew member, part owner and sponsor of many cars at Lakeside. He also let many other racers and friends use his shop for building and maintaining their cars.

In 1985 he was the CARC Vice President under President Bill Johnson, in 1993-94 (at Second Creek) he was Vice President under Don Campbell, and again in '96 under Chris Ertler. During the time the CARC ran at Second Creek, Warren was first one there and the last one to leave, setting up and tearing down the temporary fence that kept the fans out of the pits. He also helped to build and set up the racetrack as the road course added the Oval. He was the tech man and inspected all the cars that ran with the CARC at Second Creek.

When the CARC moved from SCR to Big Country in 1999, he was the Vice President under Ken Bennett from 99-03. In 2004 Warren was voted in as the President of the CARC.

Warren and his wife ElWanda were voted in as CARC lifetime members and were also voted into the CARC Hall of Fame at his last banquet in 2009. The CARC is proud to have known Warren and recognize his many contributions and accomplishments over the years, and we were pleased to have honored him at the races at BCS.

Election Meeting Coming Soon! PDF Print E-mail

WANT TO BE A CARC BOARD MEMBER ??

Elections for the 2011 CARC Executive Board are rapidly approaching and will be held within 30 days of the last scheduled race. The last race is 25 Sept at CNS.

- DO YOU WANT TO THROW THE BUMS OUT ??

- ARE YOU HAPPY WITH YOUR LEADERSHIP … BUT !

- JUST WANT TO BE PART OF THE INTERNAL

      WORKINGS OF THE CLUB?

All are good reasons to get INVOLVED. The word “involved” is critical. Being a board member is more than a red jacket. A minimum of two meetings each month (usually on Wednesdays), phone calls, special projects, attendance at all club events and tough decisions on race day are all part of the job. Only the club secretary is compensated for their time. You would do this job for the satisfaction of supporting a club that has been active for 64 years. Still interested??

You must be a club member since January 2009 to be eligible for the executive board. BUT, there are provisions for waiving the membership requirement. Don’t give up yet !!

All members of the current board are up for re-election (except Rod Guilford who is on a 2-year commitment).

Additionally, the race liaison position is vacant for 2011 (Theron Bredeson will be in the driver’s seat in 2011). Want to be involved in every race day decision?? This job is for you. This is an appointed position, not elected.

Not everyone can or wants to be a board member.  Have special skills?

   - Computer website experience

   - Graphic design

   - Photography

   - Telephone skills

   - Sales skills

   - Organization skills

   - Want to be involved with scaling/tech inspection?

These are all valuable assets to the club. Let us know about them and GET INVOLVED.

Being involved means VOTING. Come to the meetings and exercise your right to vote on the club's future. Anyone who joined the club as an active member prior to 1 June 2010 is eligible to vote.

Questions ??  Contact any board member (contact info is in the Contact CARC section of modcoupes.com) or call the Club Secretary Glenda Bredeson 303-975-6394.

Thanks for your interest!!
