Matt Devich's love of race cars started at an early age. Ken Heffner, who was racing the red #34 at Englewood Speedway, rented a garage up the alley from Matt's house. Matt started hanging around the garage, became friends with Ken, and eventually became part of the pit crew. With the help of John Pierce's nephew, Matt built a car to race at Englewood in the late 1960's. After a season and a half, Matt built his own car and raced it for a couple of years. However, life intervened, and now with a wife and three children, it became harder to finance a race car. He put his racing on hold and dedicated himself to marriage and fatherhood. Fast forward 40 years to 2009, when Matt decided it was time to return to his racing passion and built a new car with the help of his wife, Irma, and son Matty. Now entering his second season with the CARC, Matt is having a blast racing the #80 mod coupe.
