Our race meet at Big Country Speedway in Cheyenne was designated the Warren Rhoades memorial race meet. Warren Rhoades joined the CARC in 1972 and in 1973 he helped build & maintain three Powder Puff cars; one each for wife ElWanda (#13), Margaret Peconi (#14) & Patsy Wimp (#15). These cars ran from 73-77. In 1977 he helped his sons build a Sportsman that ran at Englewood. Then in 78 they moved the car to Lakeside and ran in the Funky Street Stock class.

From 1981-88 he was a board of Director with the CARC many times, while performing as a crew member, part owner and sponsor of many cars at Lakeside. He also let many other racers and friends use his shop for building and maintaining their cars.

In 1985 he was the CARC Vice President under President Bill Johnson, in 1993-94 (at Second Creek) he was Vice President under Don Campbell, and again in '96 under Chris Ertler. During the time the CARC ran at Second Creek, Warren was first one there and the last one to leave, setting up and tearing down the temporary fence that kept the fans out of the pits. He also helped to build and set up the racetrack as the road course added the Oval. He was the tech man and inspected all the cars that ran with the CARC at Second Creek.

When the CARC moved from SCR to Big Country in 1999, he was the Vice President under Ken Bennett from 99-03. In 2004 Warren was voted in as the President of the CARC.

Warren and his wife ElWanda were voted in as CARC lifetime members and were also voted into the CARC Hall of Fame at his last banquet in 2009. The CARC is proud to have known Warren and recognize his many contributions and accomplishments over the years, and we were pleased to have honored him at the races at BCS.
